Eight Fall Activities for Kids in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

We love visiting Thompson Farm this time of year! This family-run farm business hosts a bevy of fall activities such as a corn maze, pumpkin patch, petting zoo, playground, and more. While our many area farmer’s markets are open throughout the summer, it can be more enjoyable to browse the booths in the fall. Thankfully, our local farmer’s markets are in operation through the whole month of October! All of the markets managed by the Waccamaw Market Cooperative are great, and thanks to their organization you can find a farmer’s market open somewhere along the Grand Strand almost any day of the week. The Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park offers events and classes throughout the fall season where the kiddos can learn lessons in beach related topics, like crabbing, surfing, etc. since the temperatures are still warm! Huntington Beach State Park also hosts an arts and crafts festival each year at the Atalaya Castle, the historic home of the Mr. and Mrs. Huntington in the early 1930s. The Atalaya Arts and Crafts Festival will be held on September 22-24, 2023.

You won’t want to miss the many festivals that take place in the fall around the Grand Strand. Each festival has its own unique flair and is family-friendly!

• Aynor Harvest Hoe-Down Festival - September 16, 2023
  • The Aynor Hoedown Festival is a tradition that has continued in the Grand Strand for 42 years with entertainment for the kids, arts and crafts, food vendors, musical entertainment and a parade that begins at 10 am.
• Little River Shrimpfest - October 14-15, 2023
  • Festival goers will have the chance to sample some of the best local seafood to be found along the Grand Strand, while enjoying a children’s play area, a wide variety of vendors, live entertainment and more.
• Loris Bog-off Festival – October 21, 2023
  • The Loris Bog-Off is a celebration of all things chicken bog—a regional dish of chicken, rice, onion, spices and other ingredients—and takes place in downtown Loris, South Carolina. Families can expect to find hundreds of vendors, a chicken bog cooking contest, live concerts, a car and tractor show, fireworks, inflatables and so much more.

Created to preserve the abundance of southern art, culture, and heritage in our area, the Horry County Museum includes exhibits, events, and the L.W. Paul Living History Farm. This working farm provides guests the opportunity to experience the everyday life of farm family living in Horry County between 1900 and 1955 and observe and participate in activities that would have been commonplace on traditional family farms. Now this one will be a first for us this year! The fall is one of the best times for fishing in Myrtle Beach. One option is going out for a short family fishing charter trip with Captain Smiley! If you are an experienced fisherman however, we’d recommend checking out any one of our awesome area piers. Explore all the wonderful fishing excursions around the Grand Strand! 

Brookgreen Gardens hosts an annual Harvest Home Weekend filled with fun and games for the whole family that will take place this year on October 1-2, 2022. The activities include a pumpkin patch, scarecrow building, pumpkin decorating, and more, while also learning about the history of Brookgreen and enjoying the outdoors.
