How to Celebrate Galentine’s Day in Myrtle Beach

  By  Shelbi Ankiewicz

February is here which means love is in the sea air! In Myrtle Beach, we celebrate love on both Valentine’s Day and Galentine’s Day. Hence the name, "Galentine’s” it is a day to celebrate the female friendships in our lives. While it may serve as an alternative to Valentine’s Day for some, it technically falls on February 13th, so we see no reason why you can’t celebrate both! If you’ve been daydreaming about a girlfriend's getaway, consider Galentine’s Day as the perfect reason to book that last-minute trip! Here are a few ideas on how to make the most out of your Galentine’s Getaway to Myrtle Beach this February:

Start the trip with savings

A handful of Myrtle Beach area properties offer fantastic February deals - some, especially for women traveling on a girl’s getaway trip! Spend time exploring the Visit Myrtle Beach website for the most up-to-date savings and discounted packages designed for girlfriend groups, and check out the coupons page for various discounts to area attractions, restaurants, theaters, and more. Once your accommodation is secured, you can move on to the really fun stuff - planning what you’ll be doing at The Beach!

Get some Vitamin D

The temperature in February fluctuates with some days reaching the 60s and others in the 40s. Nevertheless, there’s never an excuse not to hit the beach and enjoy the sunshine - even in the winter! Pack a jacket and a good pair of walking shoes to explore the beaches and trails at one of the two state parks (or both!), hunt for seashells on a long walk with the girls, or, if the weather permits, spend some time lounging poolside with books and delicious beverages at your hotel or resort. Most importantly, always remember to still apply sunscreen! Just because the temperatures are cooler, doesn’t mean the South Carolina sun isn’t brightly shining.

Sip pretty

There are too many fun spots to even count that let you enjoy a nice beverage along the Grand Strand. Whether it’s indulging in a glass of wine with your gals at one of the wineries and singing along to live music, or lounging in a hammock while sipping on a cold beer or craft cocktail. Myrtle is here to offer whatever mood you’re looking for!

  • Test your luck at Duplin Winery located at the popular Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach. Go for a glass of wine or try one of their wine flights where you get to pick the wines of your choice. You can even pair your drinks with a cheese board for extra fun!
  • Venture into the world of craft cocktails at Twelve 33 Distillery in Little River. Stop by for a cocktail or a tasting while your group receives a breakdown of how the spirits are made and what makes each one unique.
  • Or perhaps plan a casual evening out that starts with a beer at one of the local breweries: New South Brewing Company and Grand Strand Brewing Company in downtown Myrtle Beach. Both provide a laid-back atmosphere and allow you to try all the local favorites.
  • Lastly, if you’re searching for a fun night out playing games and sitting on nice comfy chairs with drinks in hand, go to the Crooked Hammock Brewery or 2024’s newest Big Chill Island House at Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach.

Shop ’til you drop

With over 300 stores to choose from and several outlet malls, you can score hot deals on name-brand items, find unique souvenirs, or treat yourselves at a one-of-a-kind boutique. Enjoy the beautiful waterfront view at Barefoot Landing, along with its boutiques and national retailers. Explore The Market Common in Myrtle Beach for a fun shopping and dining experience.

For those on an outlet shopping mission searching for great deals, be sure to check out Tanger Outlets online in advance for coupons, and upon arrival, ask for the coupon book.

Participate in a local Galentine’s Day event

Certain restaurants or venues are hosting events specifically for Galentine’s Day, so all that’s required is showing up! One in particular is the Galentine’s Pop-Up hosted by the Hutch and Hive Social House near Brookgreen Gardens. The event will be from 6 until 8 p.m. on February 12th and be full of celebrating friendship and sisterhood. Shop, sip, and mingle with your group of girls as you learn how to make your own cocktails and Valentine's-themed candles! It’ll be a night full of fun and surprises. Tickets can be purchased online in advance - make sure to get them ahead of time so your whole gang can join in on the fun!

Sample some local seafood

You won’t want to leave the Myrtle Beach area without sampling our fresh, local seafood. There truly is no better feeling than dining at the oceanfront with your girlfriends while snacking on hushpuppies and fried shrimp after an afternoon spent at the beachside. Stroll along the beautiful Murrells Inlet MarshWalk and visit one of eight outstanding restaurants or head to the Little River waterfront to see what boats are bringing in for their favorite local restaurants.

Explore our seafood scene even further by taking a culinary class at the International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach. This is a fun way to bond and keep everyone engaged while learning delicious Southern-style recipes! Wherever you choose to dine, keep an eye out for our two South Carolina specialties: She-Crab soup and our world-renowned shrimp and grits. You won’t go home hungry after Galentine’s weekend!

Catch a show

Myrtle Beach is home to a variety of theatres offering live shows. You may not have had the chance to meet Elvis, but you can see a top-notch look-a-like at Legends in Concert. And, on February 13th and 14th, you can catch a world-renowned tribute to the Beatles - a perfect way to celebrate in style after a nice restaurant outing. No matter what kind of music everyone enjoys, you can find live performances of it at The Alabama Theatre and The Carolina Opry, which blend comedy with upbeat music and dance. Meanwhile, GTS Theatre will take you back in time as you embark on the history of Motown, and The Asher Theatre will give you a range of fun entertainment, including its brand new MoTown ‘59 Ultimate show and dinner.

Plan a night on the town

Once you’ve covered all the basics in the city and you’re ready to let loose, unwind, and get your groove on, there are so many nightlife options to choose from! Broadway at the Beach offers a comedy club, country bar, dance clubs, and even dueling pianos, while the House of Blues at Barefoot Landing regularly has free live music and major touring acts. The Murrells Inlet MarshWalk and the oceanfront Tin Roof in downtown Myrtle Beach also offer lots of live music with great views.

If you want to be extra spunky and learn how to dance like a local, head into North Myrtle Beach and check out Fat Harold’s Beach Club or Duck’s OD Lounge, where the Shag—South Carolina’s state dance—is taught and danced! You and the girls will laugh and create memories that will last for many years to come.

Recover at the spa

Your night(s) on the town can easily be remedied with a day at the spa. Picture getting a massage with the lulling melody of waves crashing in the background or a manicure and pedicure while sipping mimosas with your girl group. The Myrtle Beach area is home to several outstanding spas that can accommodate groups for a whole day of pampering with different services. Pro tip: While smaller services may be easy to schedule once you arrive in Myrtle Beach, the bigger group you have, the sooner you should call in advance to make your appointment, especially if you want to enjoy your treatments together.
