On Location: Loris, South Carolina

As we travel from the top of the Grand Strand to the bottom and explore the 14 communities of the Myrtle Beach area, we are stopping today inland of Little River in a town called, Loris, South Carolina. Loris is an old railroad town that served the lumber industry beginning in the 1880s and is known for its abundance of southern charm.
While it may be one of the smallest communities by population size, Loris is a tightknit community with a revitalized downtown area and local farmer’s market.
The community always hosts the Annual Loris Bog-Off Festival each October. The chicken bog, which originated in Loris, is a dish consisting of rice, chicken, sausage, and spices – something you can only find in Loris.
