March 1, marks the beginning of seasonal parking regulations on
Ocean Boulevard. Parking is prohibited on the Boulevard
from March 1 through October 31.
Parking meters are re-installed and in effect for the season from March 1 through October 31. It takes about two weeks for Lanier Parking staff to install 1,500 meters in the parking management areas east of Kings Highway, from 31st Avenue North to 29th Avenue South and 69thAvenue North to 77th Avenue North. The 52nd and 53rd Avenue North street ends also have parking meters. Most meters are enforced from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m. seven days a week. For more specific information please check the meter or the paystation.
In South Carolina, persons with disabilities may park in specially marked spaces or at any public-operated parking meter for free, provided their vehicle displays a valid handicapped, Purple Heart, Disabled American Veterans or Medal of Honor license tag, or a valid and official handicapped hang tag. If your vehicle displays one of these, then you do not have to pay a municipal parking meter anywhere in South Carolina.
Parking meters are identified with stickers that indicate how long meters are available. The red stickers indicate short-term 3 hour parking and the green stickers indicate all-day parking. Hourly rates range from $1.50 to $2.00 depending on the location and demand. All-day meters are clearly marked stating that for $8-$10 you can park in that spot all day, just remember to look for the green sticker on the meter for all-day parking.
All parking meters accept U.S. coins and some meters in high traffic areas now take credit or debit cards for convenience. Paystations accept U.S. coins, bills up to $10.00, credit cards and debit cards. If you find that you don't have enough change, call the office at 843-626-PARK (626-7275) and an ambassador will come to you with the requested change needed.
Parkmobile is another option to make parking meter payment. Pay for parking via your cell phone by signing up at ParkMobile.io. Signing up is free and you will be able to start and stop your parking time from your cellphone.
