Your Guide to Halloween in Conway, SC

  By  Shelbi Ankiewicz
Conway Downtown Halloween

Did you know the city of Conway legally changes it's name to Halloween, SC from Oct 1-31?!

Welcome to Conway, SC - the best way I can describe this cute, quaint city is as a Hallmark movie. By this, I mean that it’s decorated with the seasons, there are always lively events happening, and the people are as friendly as can be. Just under 15 miles inland from Myrtle Beach, Conway is a quick stop away, definitely worth visiting, if not for an event, then to walk around and take in its beauty through hanging moss trees and the Waccamaw Riverwalk.

When the holiday season comes around, Myrtle Beach offers various activities, but so do its surrounding towns and cities! Conway is the place to be for everything spooky - from over-the-top decor to fun, seasonal events. Here is what you can’t miss during your trip this October!

Decorations

We hope you like pumpkins and cobb webbs, because there’s no shortage of them in Conway! Each year, the city goes all out with decor, covering the trees, houses, businesses, walkways, and everything alike as much as possible. Walk through the downtown area to see mini pumpkins hanging off the large trees lining Main Street. Or, cruise through the small streets to find large skeletons and jack-o-lanterns near the sidewalks, spider webs on bushes, or witches' hats strung above your head. It’s as if Halloweentown came to life! It’s the ideal spot for a photo op or to get into the Halloween spirit.

Events

The Halloween lineup is ready! Put these spooky events on your calendar to make as many as possible.

Spooktacular Weekend

Sun Outdoors Myrtle Beach - Thursday, October 9 to Sunday, October 12

This weekend is jam-packed with Halloween activities, including costume contests (for people and pets alike), trick-or-treating, and the yearly Conway Halloween Golf Cart Parade. These are just the highlights - there will also be a dance party, family fun activities, arts and crafts, amongst so much more.

Graveyard Grand Prix Coffin Races

Sunday, October 25

Here for the first time, the Graveyard Grand Prix is a friendly competition, not for the faint of heart. Judging creativity, speed, and construction, each team must create a human-powered “coffin” that has a rider, aka “the ghost”, and four pushers. Each team should be dressed up in costume and ready to race the other competitors! There will be prizes at the end, and a whole day of fun with live music, food trucks, and activities.

Conway Halloween Fall Photoshoot

Saturday, October 11

Back for its second year, book a spot to get your Halloween-themed or fall photoshoot. These photos are one of a kind, taken in downtown Conway with stunning backgrounds perfect for friends, families, or those looking to get pictures that are anything but ordinary. Times will vary from 1:00 to 6:30 p.m. - dress up or come as you are!

Halloween Hustle 2025

Saturday, October 4

Get ready to run your heart out! New in 2024, this race is returning with a 1M, 5K, 10K, or challenge race (participating in all three races) throughout Conway, aka “City of Halloween”. Register online to participate and receive a glow-in-the-dark medal from one of the various designs and a decorated long-sleeve shirt to show off your achievements. Dress up in your favorite Halloween-themed clothes or fall colors, too, to add to the fun!

Conway Ghost Walk

Wednesday, October 15 to Saturday, October 18

Come and listen to the tales of ghosts and creatures that used to… and maybe still do… lurk around Downtown Conway. Professional storytellers will take you on a journey throughout the city and residential district to share spooky and sometimes funny stories that you will be able to tell others for many Halloweens to come. Happening each day from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., grab your group and your bravest faces to discover what hides in the shadowy streets.

Halloween Market 2025

Thursday to Sunday throughout October

Conway’s Christmas markets are transforming into Spooktacular Market Sheds for the month of October. Visit this marketplace to see and purchase some Halloween-themed artwork, handmade costumes, home decor, or treats to take home. Located in The Town Green in Downtown Conway, stop by a few times to get prepared for your Halloween night!

Top Spots to Visit

Regardless of the time of year, there are some must-visit spots to hit in Conway. From restaurants to museums to scenic views that you can’t miss.

The Riverwalk

Nothing screams fall like a walk alongside a river, dazzled with tall, hanging moss trees. The walk spans about 1.5 miles and passes restaurants, goes underneath the bridge leading into the city, and has numerous benches to take a break and soak everything in. It’s also lit up at nighttime, accessible at all times of day.

Theatre of the Republic

Established in 1969, this little theatre has been a local favorite for years. Featuring different productions year-round, there’s always something new and exciting, with many holiday-related performances. Right on Main Street, it’s hard to miss with its classic signage and big, yellow lights.

Thompson Farm and Nursery

A little further inland from Downtown Conway is Thompson Farm and Nursery, which hosts events year-round. During the fall season, you can find a large corn maze that changes its design each year, drive-in movie nights each Friday throughout the month of October, a Halloween Helicopter Candy Drop, and so much more!
