Ways to Celebrate Mom in Myrtle Beach

  By  Ashley Daniels

It’s that time of year again to give a special shout-out to Mom on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 8. If you don’t have anything planned – first of all, shame on you; second, we’ve got you covered with a Mother of a list of ideas to celebrate her.

Take Cooking off Her Plate!

Let one of the many crazy-talented chefs take over the cooking (and the dishes) on Mother’s Day by taking her out to brunch. Here are some of the top brunch spots we recommend. There’s also the world-famous Gospel Brunch at House of Blues, which is back with singing, dancing, and food on Sundays. Plus, Crooked Hammock Brewery in Barefoot Landing is hosting two fun events, including an all-day salute to the Queens with lunch, a cold beer and a “Moms Only” cornhole tournament and Yoga in the Yard, held every Sunday from 10-11 a.m. and led by Sea Yoga.

Spa Day!

Mama deserves a Spa Day – an hour to take a deep breath, relax and unwind. Which is why you should schedule a massage, facial or package combination on her special day. There are many spas on the Grand Strand to choose from: two we recommend are the Cinzia Spa within the North Beach Resort and the Hibiscus Spa, located at the Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes.

Tiptoe Through the Tulips

Forget the traditional bouquet of flowers. There isn’t a more beautiful place to spend this beautiful day than Brookgreen Gardens, a breathtaking display of live flowers and flora, and sculptures galore. You and mom can take a stroll through this historic, serene setting and, this year, Brookgreen is hosting its second annual Spring Wine Festival in the Gardens event on Mother’s Day from 1-4 p.m. Enjoy wine tastings and live music, plus raffle prizes and other activities.

Shop ’Til You Drop

Pamper Mommy with some shopping therapy at any of the oodles of unique boutiques, malls and outlets. Let her pick out her own gift this year! Outdoor affairs to shop on the Grand Strand include Barefoot Landing, Broadway at the Beach, The Market Common, The Hammock Shops, and two Tanger Outlets locations. Indoors, there is the Myrtle Beach Mall and Coastal Grand Mall.

The entrance of Myrtle Beach's International Airport.

It’s Playtime!

If Mom is game for a fun challenge, plan a day at one of our sporty venue options, like TopGolf, a mega high-rise driving range on steroids; upscale bowling at any of the 810 Bowling & Billiards locations; or a round at any of the beach’s 50 mini golf courses. Or, if the beach is more on her horizon, soak in the sun at a spot on the sand, rent a kayak or Jet ski, or test her heights adrenaline with a Parasail ride.

It’s Showtime!

For a final encore, reserve seats at one of Myrtle Beach’s nationally ranked live shows performed on stage at The Carolina Opry or Alabama Theatre, live music at the House of Blues, or at family-fun themed theatres, like Pirates Voyage or Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament.
