The Parks, Recreation and Sports Tourism Department’s popular Youth Track and Field Clinics return this fall to Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, 705 33rd Avenue North, on various Saturdays. Registration is underway! In its third year, the series provides current and aspiring track and field athletes, ages six to 18, with an opportunity to work with experienced high school, college or club coaches. All experience levels are welcome! Participants are grouped by age and experience level. Clinics begin with group warm-ups at 9:00 a.m. and end between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m. with cool-down exercises and a group talk. Attendees will need a personal water bottle, sun screen, athletic apparel, closed toe athletic/running shoes (event specific spikes if you have them, but they are not required) and lots of energy and excitement. The cost is $10 per clinic or $25 for all three sessions. Visit https://bit.ly/TrackandFieldSeries for more information and to register.
Special Guest Melissa Jefferson… The first clinic, set for September 23, will feature special guest Melissa Jefferson, a gold medalist, world champion and Coastal Carolina graduate! For a lengthy list of Jefferson’s honors and accomplishments, see https://bit.ly/MelissaJefferson.
