A Unique Opportunity to Learn Golf

You are passionate about golf, and you want to bring your kids with you at the golf course, initiate them to this wonderful game. Or maybe they are already playing and that makes you very proud to be able to walk the grounds with them. If your child is already playing or on the merge to, you already know that golf can be expensive. First you must buy them golf clubs, and after that all that comes with it, balls, tees, clothes, shoes, gloves, umbrellas, and hopefully, golf lessons. You know where I’m going with that. The bottom line can be very scary at times, and you haven’t played a round yet. But good news! When you visit The Beach, Myrtle Beach, the golf capital of the world with it’s 90 championship golf courses you can bring your kids to the golf course, and they can play for……FREE!

Kids under 16 or 17 play for free with a playing adult on a one-on-one basis at several area courses. Some golf courses have time slots dedicated for kids; some offer it all year round but others only during certain months during the year. When booking your tee time, ask the host club for the special they are offering or visit their website to view the offers.

Kids play free program is an initiative that lets mom or dad play a top 50 caliber courses while introducing their children to the game, creating memories that can last a lifetime.

Although most of the golf clubs offers the kids play free program, here are some of my favorites:

Barefoot Resort and Golf

Bring your kid to the home of the most decorated multi-course resort in Myrtle Beach. Four courses designed by hall of fame players and architects Greg Norman, Davis Love III, Tom Fazio and Pete Dye. Located in the heart of the Lowcountry of North Myrtle Beach, the golf courses offer free golf from June to August for all kids 17 and under. With over 30 acres of manicured grass to use, the Barefoot range and practice facility is a perfect place to learn the game.

Tidewater

Consistently included as a must-play course year after year in publications like Golf Magazine, Golf Digest, and Golfweek, Tidewater Golf Club has earned myriad awards and accolades since its opening. With 9 holes that play along either the Intercoastal Waterway or Cherry Grove Inlet, the course’s visuals are indelibly etched into mind of everyone who tees it up.

Grande Dunes

Kids 16 and under play free with an adult at this spectacular golf course. Grande Dunes has been ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses and the Roger Rulewich design is better than ever following the conclusion of a renovation project that included new greens and an overhaul of every bunker on the course. Recently voted Myrtle Beach’s best golf course, Grande Dunes is one of the area’s most creative design.

TPC Myrtle Beach

Located in Murrells Inlet the TPC Myrtle Beach opened to rave reviews in 1999. Right away, many of golf’s most respected sources pronounced the TPC an instant classic. Home of 2020 Masters Champions, Dustin Johnson, it is the only course in the Grand Strand area to be awarded 5 stars by Golf Digest magazine. Kids play under 16 play free with a paying adult and it is also the home one of the top golf schools in America, The Dustin Johnson Golf School.

Legends Golf Resort

Legends Golf Resort offers three of the best championship golf courses available in Myrtle Beach. Located just off Highway 501 in Myrtle Beach, the Heathland, Moorland, and Parkland courses are nestled within the Scottish-inspired Legends Golf Resort facility. The onsite accommodations give you the best option on the beach for the All-inclusive Golf Package. This is one of the few true stay and play facilities in the area. Of course, kids play free in the summer with a paying adult.

Others of my favorite clubs includes The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, host of the new PGA Tour tournament, the Myrtle Beach Classic sponsored by Visit Myrtle Beach which will be played from May 9-12, 2024, Tidewater Golf Club, Arrowhead Country Club and so much more.

Golf is a sport you can practice all your life. My dad initiated me and my two older brothers to this great game when we were young. He always said that his greatest memories on the golf courses was playing with his three sons. Personally, I’ve had the chance to play with a lot of good players in my golf career and with some of the best pros in Quebec, but nothing beats the memories of playing with my dad, at dusk or dawn, alone together and competing against each other, I really miss those days.

So, don’t just bring your bathing suits, umbrellas, and surfboard to The Beach, bring your golf clubs, and enjoy great family time on the golf course with your kids in Myrtle Beach, where they play for free in the golf capital of the World!
