Take me out to the ball game! Pelicans Baseball Season Is Here

  By  Normand Nadon

Myrtle Beach Pelicans unveil their new logo to celebrate 25 seasons! The 2024 season opens at home on April 5th.

Originally from Canada, you are probably thinking that the first sport I practiced was hockey! Think again, my dad, a great ball player himself, introduced us, my two brothers and I, to baseball at a very young age. I just love baseball, it reminds me of my childhood, and every time I visit Myrtle Beach during the baseball season, I make it a priority to go see the Myrtle Beach Pelicans perform at the beautiful Pelicans Ballpark. The Pelicans are a Minor League Baseball team, competing in the Carolina League. They are affiliated with the Chicago Cubs of the Major League Baseball (MLB). They offer an excellent caliber of baseball, from April to September, and the players perform at the highest level hoping, one day, to make it to The Show! The MLB.

The Pelican's Stadium was ranked as the top ballpark in the Carolina League by Baseball America in 2009. It is very well located near many attractions on the 21st Avenue in Myrtle Beach. The beautiful stadium was built in 1999 for approximately 13 million dollars. It can accommodate 4800 fans with fixed seats and 6599 total with standing room. There are also 9 luxury suites that you can rent which can receive 24 people each. The area surrounding the stadium offers you plenty of activities you can do before or after the games. Whether it is shopping or just enjoying a good meal at Broadway at the Beach, practice your golf game at PopStroke, visit Ripley’s Aquarium of Myrtle Beach, the Hollywood Wax Museum, or even test your driving skills at the Broadway Grand Prix, everyone will find what they are looking for, depending on your preferences at a walking distance from the stadium.

The Pelicans revealed a new logo to commemorate 25 seasons! The logo includes symbols to represent the milestone including: four stars (one for each league championship), the use of a diamond as the containing shape, and incorporating a silver tone (which is a link to the traditional material used when celebrating a 25th anniversary). If you're looking to celebrate, you're in luck: every Pelicans game, you will benefit from all kinds of promotions. Food and drink specials throughout the week and fireworks on the weekends. My suggestion for you is to visit their website and select the promotion that fits your needs while you are in town and buy your tickets online for the next home game.

Let’s talk baseball. From notable players who made their way to The Show in the early 2000s to more recent debuts, the Pelicans have been home to exceptional talent throughout the club’s 25 years in Myrtle Beach. They won 4 League titles (1999-2000-2015-2016) and 9 division titles so far. And that is one more reason to go encourage the team, they are very good! At the time of writing this blog, the Pelicans are not only sitting on top of the South Division, but they are also on top of the Carolina League with 32 wins in 45 games. An exceptional record and they are, of course, the favorite team to win the Championship for the fifth time this year.

So, whether it is after spending a beautiful day at The Beach, playing on one of the 90 golf courses, riding your bike on one of the beautiful bike paths, or maybe even experiencing southern cuisine at one of the great restaurants Myrtle Beach as to offer, why not head to the ballpark and cheer on the Pelicans. You will have a wonderful time with your friends and family and your money’s worth, that’s a promise…Play Ball!!
