Myrtle Beach Plantation Tours

For those who love history and the pivotal role of South Carolina in the culture of the old South, the Myrtle Beach area is a great place for a plantation tour kind of day! Make in an engaging and easygoing day by visiting some amazing antebellum and postbellum rice plantations.

In Murrells Inlet be sure to see Brookgreen Gardens, a 9,100-acre property that was once part of 4 former rice plantations where The Oaks, Brookgreen, Springfield, and Laurel Hill working farms were once established. Today only the beauty of the grounds remains. In the 1930s this stunningly-aesthetic property was converted to become a National Historic Landmark with internationally renowned artist's statuary gardens, inspiring floral and indigenous plant displays, dirt road rover tours, pontoon boat tours, and even a zoo.

Hop a scenic plantation boat tour out of the Wacca Wache Marina in Murrells Inlet. See rice plantations, slave cabins, ancient mossy oaks, alligators, and all kinds of South Carolina wildlife. The 60-foot "Waccamaw Lady" will cruise your family or group at 15 knots past six fabulous area plantations. Enjoy a terrific and informative relaxing two-and-a-half-hour cruise and learn the amazing southern history. See the real South Carolina in all its glory.

Georgetown, South Carolina, established in 1730, is one of South Carolina's oldest cities and is a fascinating area for learning the history of the old South. Take Hwy. 17 south for 45 minutes to Georgetown.

Established in 1718, Mansfield Plantation sits on the bank of Black River in the Georgetown area. Today Mansfield is a bed and breakfast inn and a remarkable plantation tour experience. Mansfield is also a National Historic Landmark with its 900-acres of timeless authenticity.

Hopsewee Plantation, on the Santee River, has been around since 1740. Also located in Georgetown, Hopsewee offers a marvelous house and grounds tour of a real rice plantation. Visitors always enjoy the tea room and award-winning lunch experience as well.

Boone Hall Plantation, in Mt. Pleasant, is an hour and fifteen minutes south of the Myrtle Beach area and is the oldest working plantation in America since 1790. Great tours are available with carriage rides on the property where the ABC mini-series "North and South" was filmed.

Be sure to book the perfect place to stay in the Myrtle Beach area and enjoy all the great attractions and plantation tours related to Southern history.
