Tuesday's are the new Friday in Loris

A new initiative known as Downtown Tuesdays started this year in Loris and they are ending their season with holiday celebrations for locals and visitors to come out and participate!

If you drive just a little more inland from Myrtle Beach, one of the cities you’ll find yourself in is Loris, S.C. It’s one of the places that make up Horry County and is in the Lowcountry region. Like many other towns and cities in South Carolina, Loris started as a railroad town in the 1800s and has now grown into a city that many call home.

In most cities, events and liveliness happen on the weekends, Loris included, but some of the locals wanted to find a way to bring more traction to businesses during the weekdays, which is how Downtown Tuesdays was created. Launched on October 17, Downtown Tuesdays was held each week from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Each night consists of family-related activities and different events for visitors to engage in. The spot has become known as “The Yard” at 4148 Main Street in Loris, and according to the Chamber Executive Director Samantha Norris, the event even has a logo and slogan, “Down Tuesday: The new Friday.” As a part of Downtown Tuesday’s “finale” for the year, two more events will be hosted on December 12th and 19th to celebrate the holiday season.

December 12th will be Locals Night and the Polar Express Bus. Upon arrival, guests will take the Polar Express, a double-decker bus while listening to sounds from the popular motion picture soundtrack. By the end of the ride to the South Pole, passengers will receive a golden ticket, a sleigh bell with the words “BELIEVE”, water, hot cocoa, and a sweet dessert to enjoy. There may even be a chance to see Santa Claus if enough people ring their bells. It’s encouraged that everyone who attends dresses in pajamas or holiday attire to get even more into the Christmas spirit! For this event, tickets are required and can be found at: The Big Red Bus | Tours and Transportation in Myrtle Beach, SC (bigredbussc.com) or through reservations made to [email protected]. On December 19th, the final event, the Loris Gospel Choir will be performing for everyone to enjoy. There will also be some vendors set up with food and snacks for visitors to purchase.

After a review of Downtown Tuesdays this year and its popularity, the event is on track to resume come spring and/or summer with even bigger and greater events. Come out to Loris and enjoy the final events of the year with your family and friends!
