5 Reasons to Fly to Myrtle Beach

The entrance of Myrtle Beach's International Airport.

Myrtle Beach isn’t just any beach, it’s The Beach – and we get this prestigious name from the 60 miles of beaches, 14 coastal communities, dazzling entertainment, 2,000 restaurants, stellar lodging and many more hidden gems that make our area the perfect beach destination. The Myrtle Beach International Airport is another hidden gem that you might overlook. Here are the 5 reasons why flying to Mrytle Beach is the best idea you’ve ever had!

1. The airport was here first!

In many cities, the airport was developed long after the city was established and often on land far away from the city’s center. In Myrtle Beach, the airport actually existed prior to Myrtle Beach becoming such a popular destination for sun seekers! Fun fact – the airport was built on the land used by the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base dating back to the 1940s.

2. It’s got that small town feel with big town flights!

The Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is of the busiest airports in South Carolina with over 2 million passengers a year with flights from over 50 nonstop destinations. However, it hasn’t lost the small town feel and southern hospitality that Myrtle Beach is known for. From families to large groups, travelers benefit from the combination of a plethora of flights to choose from in a resort atmosphere that helps you to start that beach relaxation experience before you even pick up your luggage.

3. It’s close to everything!

The Myrtle Beach International Airport is located in the heart of the area, with entertainment venues and shopping, hotels, the Myrtle Beach Convention Center and other meeting spaces, and over 2,000 restaurants are a short drive or ride away.  Our local transportation infrastructure also offers at least three routes to get to our airport, decreasing your chance of missing a flight due to traffic. We can’t, however, promise you that your attendees won’t miss the flight due to The Beach…we can’t be held liable for the pull of the rolling waves!

4. Save money!

The Myrtle Beach area is one of the most affordable beach destinations in the country, especially on transportation to and from the airport and airline costs. One of the biggest hurdles travelers are facing is the growing expense of ride shares and other types of transportation from the airport to their hotel. In many cities, ride share costs can range from $100 to $200 per person, however with the airport located in the heart of Myrtle Beach, these high costs can be avoided. We would rather see you spend that budget on beach essentials like sunscreen and a margarita!

5. You see The Beach from the air!

Travelers can enjoy the panoramic views of our 60 miles of pristine beaches and Atlantic Ocean as they fly in to Myrtle Beach. There’s nothing like flying to The Beach and seeing the ocean underneath the plane as you land.
