Closures & Cancellations

Updated April 2, 2020 – The following events and businesses across the Grand Strand are being canceled/postponed/closed in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Some businesses remain open so please stop in.


South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster has closed public access to all beaches and has closed all public boat ramps, landings, and other access points on the state's lakes, rivers, and waterways. The order does not impact the rights of private property owners living on beaches, lakes, rivers, or waterways in any way.


To slow the spread of COVID-19 local and state leaders have passed emergency ordinances that impact Grand Strand residents and visitors. All amusements designed to attract and accommodate visitors, are hereby ordered to close effective Friday, March 27, 2020, including but not limited to:

  • Movie and live-performance theaters.
  • Golf courses in the City of Myrtle Beach limits (although locals’ play is allowed) 
  • Mini-golf courses. 
  • Moped, and golf cart rental operations.
  • Amusement parks and arcades.

In addition, on March 31, 2020, Gov. Henry McMaster issued executive order 2020-17 closing all non-essential businesses in South Carolina that include close contact between individuals. Closures are effective at 5 p.m. on April 1, 2020.

  • Carolina Country Music Cruise postponed to early 2021.

  • Smoke on the Beach BBQ Competition postponed
  • Myrtle Beach Harley Week this spring has been canceled. Organizers say they intend to combine events with the Fall Rally in October, which will be held Oct. 5 through Oct. 11.


Some stores and retail establishments have adjusted hours to allow staff to restock and do additional cleaning. 

  • Broadway At The Beach and Barefoot Landing are open for all normal center services but merchants have the flexibility to adjust their hours or to close as they deem necessary. 
  • Publix will close two hours earlier at 8 p.m.
  • Sam’s Club will open at 9 a.m. each day, Sundays will open at 10 a.m.
  • Tanger Outlets Both Locations - open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or
  • Walmart including Neighborhood Markets would be open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. 


  • Coastal Carolina University classes are taking place online and will remain online for the rest of the spring 2020 semester. 
  • Horry County Parks & Rec after school programs are canceled in accordance with school closings 
  • Horry-Georgetown Technical College classes are taking place online and will remain online for the rest of the spring 2020 semester. 
  • All South Carolina K-12 Public Schools will remain closed through the month of April. Students continue education with learning from home program.

  • All City of Myrtle Beach Recreation Centers, Chapin Memorial Library, youth and adult sports, and programs are closed/canceled.
  • City of Myrtle Beach meetings and city-related events will be postponed to a later date. 
  • Court for Horry County Magistrate Court and Circuit Court is canceled the week of March 23. Jurors should not report to the courthouse this week.
  • All Horry County Government offices will be closed to the public until further notice. All Horry County Parks and Recreation and Library programs are canceled, including organized athletics. For the latest updates visit

Hospitals in the Grand Strand are restricting access to their facilities to protect patients from the coronavirus.



  • City of Myrtle Beach Sports Facilities are all closed, and events canceled until further notice.
  • Coastal Carolina University - Per order of the Sun Belt Conference, all sports are currently suspended until further notice.
  • Ripken Baseball – Out of an abundance of caution, Ripken baseball has closed until the end of March.  Their tournaments are canceled. 
  • TOP GUN Sports has suspended all of its tournaments through 3/31/2020. At that time a determination will be made on future events. This includes local tournaments and national accounts.

  • Cabinfever Pickleball Tournament - March 17-18, MB Sports Center - Canceled 
  • Cheer LTD Nationals @ CANAM - March 20-22 – Canceled
  • 2020 Dunes Sparks Toyota Jr Tennis Championship - March 20-21 - Dunes Club - Cancelled. All USTA events have been suspended until after April 20
