Myrtle Beach offers family-friendly events for the holiday weekend! Although a pandemic has put a damper on some Fourth of July fun this year, there are still a few events* to enjoy in the Myrtle Beach area during the upcoming holiday. In addition to our 60-miles of beautiful beaches, many attractions, and amazing restaurants, you are invited to participate in the following events in the Grand Strand. There are a few things to keep in mind if you come to Myrtle Beach for the holiday weekend. First, the City of Myrtle Beach code prohibits the…

Brookgreen Gardens is a Grand Strand masterpiece on any day, but now, it’s especially exciting to visit as they are hosting an amazing art exhibit by internationally known artist Bruce Munro. Munro’s Southern Light exhibit opened on May 15 and it will run through September 12, 2020. I had the opportunity to visit Brookgreen and view the exhibit in mid-May, and I was blown away. The evening began with us watching a recorded Zoom call between Brookgreen’s marketing manager, Lauren Joseph, and Bruce Munro himself. He was supposed to be in…

This 10,000-acre sanctuary is just minutes from Myrtle Beach Just minutes from downtown Myrtle Beach is an outstanding nature preserve with a very unique habitat. I went there with my mountain bike after learning that it is home to the rare Venus Fly Trap plant. Indeed, Venus Fly Traps are only found in the Carolinas with a high concentration of them at the Lewis Ocean Bay Heritage Preserve in Horry County. I found an entrance on International Drive, between the dense residential community of Carolina Forest and the town of Conway, South…

Myrtle Beach Celebrates Earth Day 2020

Tuesday, April 21, 2020 1:00 PM by Nora Battle

This week, we’ll celebrate Earth Day in a different way. Normally, we venture down to Brookgreen Gardens for activities they host celebrating our planet and teaching us how we can do our part to keep it clean or we head out for a community beach sweep. But given the current circumstances, we’ll be sticking close to home and trying to incorporate Earth Day into our day-to-day life. Earth Day falls on Wednesday, April 22, this year, but we’ll be using the whole week to teach our kids what we can about doing our part. It’s the 50th anniversary of…

While we’ve heard a lot of stories of hardship, we’ve also heard a lot of wonderful stories about neighbors helping one another. One company here locally, Native Sons, has started a ‘Support Our…
