No one does ‘family friendly’ quite like the Town of Surfside Beach, which is why we always look forward to any of the events they host throughout the year. Surfside Beach features two miles of pristine oceanfront and has 36 access points to its popular beach. It has an awesome public library that regularly hosts kid-related activities, great playground areas, and a larger park that is home to a seasonal farmers market with live music.

This coming Friday and Saturday, March 8 and 9, 2019, the Town of Surfside Beach will be holding its 10th Annual BBQ Festival, an event I’m sure we’ll want to check out with kids in tow. This year features 11 competitors: Beach Butts, Beach Catering, Carter’s Carolina BBQ, Coastal BBQ, Smoking Down South, Smokin’ Esso B’s, Gardner Boys BBQ, Evans BBQ, The BBQ House, and Hayward’s Catering, with last year’s champion, Pop Pop’s Pit BBQ.

Friday evening, from 5 to 7 p.m., is the “event before the event” where chefs compete making "Anything But BBQ.” The event is held in the public parking lot at the intersection of Surfside and Yaupon Drives. On Saturday, Surfside’s Annual BBQ Festival begins at 10 a.m. on Surfside Drive where the BBQ competitors compete for your vote. There will be games, face painting, inflatables, and over 70 vendors and live music. Music kicks off at 10 a.m. with bluegrass by Crave & Company, and at 1 p.m. the Josh Brannon Band will play country music.

Perhaps one of the most important things to know: Admission is free! Another important thing to note is that the weather forecast also looks good! So if you’re headed to the area this weekend, love BBQ and are looking for something to do, you’ll definitely want to head to Surfside Beach. You won’t leave hungry.
