Right now, an effort is underway to lure a renowned brewing company to the Myrtle Beach area.
The Myrtle Beach Area Regional Economic Development Corporation has begun a social media blitz to convince Stone Brewing Company, the United States' 10th largest craft brewery, to open their new east coast-based brewery and beer garden along the Grand Strand.
Officials with the EDC went live on March 12, 2014 with a Facebook page called "Stone Brewed on the Beach." As of 2:30 p.m. on March 14, it had over 2,700 "likes."
EDC officials are heading to Stone Brewing's California headquarters later this month to tout the Myrtle Beach area as the perfect spot for their next brewery.
Stone Brewing Company was founded in 1996. They're the maker of such delicious brews as Ruination IPA and the Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA. Today, the brewery has expanded its distribution to 40 states and seven countries.
There's definitely a lot of competition, as a number of states east of the Mississippi are vying for the chance to have a Stone brewery in their backyard.
What are our qualifications? The Grand Strand boasts 60 miles of beautiful, sandy beaches and attracts over 15 million tourists annually. A respected brewery would be another wonderful attraction for our guests to enjoy.
There are obviously plenty of suitors out there trying to woo this company. Our hope is they realize we're the perfect match.
