How about this weather? The frigid winter conditions have taken a backseat to several days of gloriously blue skies, sunshine and pleasant temperatures. Yes, it's official; spring is here!

And as the beautiful weather continues, we can't think of a better way to spend it than to commune with nature. Here in the Myrtle Beach area, we're fortunate to have two great state parks in which to do just that.

Myrtle Beach State Park is gearing up for its big springtime extravaganza - Park Palooza! - on April 4. Fun for the whole family is guaranteed, with an extravagant array of activities designed for all ages. You can cook over a campfire, create nature crafts, meet live animals, enjoy a scavenger hunt, balance on a slackline, navigate with a compass, learn about whales and so much more.

What about that doesn't sound fun and adventurous? Nothing that we can think of!

The famed Atalaya Castle at Huntington Beach State Park is preparing to host a sleepover March 28 and March 29. A night of fun awaits those who turn out for the sleepover, including a scavenger hunt, a cozy campfire and much more! The cost is $50 for adults, $30 for children ages 7 and up and free for kids 6 and under. You definitely don't want to miss out!

In addition to these great events, the state parks offer a number of educational opportunities, glorious nature trails and some of the best bird watching along the east coast.

There is a wealth of activities going on at both of our fantastic state parks. And spring is the perfect time to begin enjoying them!
