The weekend of Friday, November 15, through Sunday, November 17, is sure to be a fun one along the Grand Strand as the Champion Autism Network (CAN) has organized a Sensory-Friendly Family Fun Weekend for families near and far. For those coming from out of town, Bluegreen Vacations is providing discounted rates as low as $69/night, and there is a fun sensory-friendly activity planned from start to finish. Here is a look at the schedule:

Friday, November 15: Join CAN families for a pool party at Harbour Lights to play, splash, eat and mingle.
Saturday, November 16, from 8 to 11 a.m.: Sensory-friendly game time at Dave & Buster's
Saturday, November 16, from 9 to 11 a.m.: Sensory-friendly time at Ripley’s Aquarium
Saturday, November 16, from 1 to 3 p.m.: Sensory-friendly Christmas on Ice Show
Saturday, November 16, from 7 to 8 p.m.: S’mores with CAN families at Harbour Lights
Sunday, November 17, from 9 to 11 a.m.: Sensory-friendly shopping at Tanger Outlets with holiday sales and activities for kids

The Champion Autism Network’s primary mission is to create an environment where families impacted by autism feel supported without judgment. CAN took a huge step in reaching that goal when, in January 2016, the town of Surfside Beach issued a resolution declaring it the first autism-friendly travel destination. Both the City of Myrtle Beach and Horry County followed suit at the end of 2018. Since Surfside Beach, South Carolina, is well-known as the ‘family beach,’ it makes perfect sense that it would also be the home to such an impressive, inclusive and family-oriented organization.
