The popular Diva Half Marathon and 5k event are set to take place this weekend in North Myrtle Beach. Last year’s event drew nearly 4,500 runners from across the United States. While I can’t imagine many people would register for a half marathon last minute, I know several people who decide do a 5k just days before the event. That said, registration is still available online here (www.runlikeadiva.com) until midnight on Thursday, May 3.
I’ve never actually run in this event, but I have attended a few years… which should say something about just how fun this race is! Runners show up decked out in pink, tutus, boas and tiaras, and everyone is always in a good mood. Maybe it’s the music along the race course or the champagne and roses at the finish line? Either way, they make running a fun spectator sport, too!
If you’re interested in participating, check out www.runlikeadiva.com. If you’re interested in just going to watch, the race course starts heading south on Ocean Boulevard near Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, this Saturday, May 6. The course loops back around and ends on Ocean Boulevard as well, and the entire route is pretty scenic. The half marathon begins at 7 a.m. and the 5k at 7:20 a.m. If you’re wanting to catch the party at the finish line, aim for around 3 to 3 ½ hours after the start time.
A couple other notes for possible participants: All runners receive a t-shirt, and finishers will receive a medal, roses, champagne, and entry to a post-race pool party at Baywatch Resort beginning at 2 p.m. on the day of the race. There’s just no party like a diva party.
