Here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, we consider Memorial Day weekend the official start to summer. Our public schools here locally have dismissed for summer break earlier in the week, the temperatures are solidly in the 80s, and we’re ready for beach picnics and time out on the water. Military Appreciation Days Parade and Family Picnic

Myrtle Beach celebrates Military Appreciation Days during the month of May with a full schedule of activities. On Memorial Day weekend, visitors have to opportunity to attend the Military Appreciation Days on Saturday, May 26. The parade begins at 10:30 a.m. and takes place along Howard Avenue and Farrow Parkway at The Market Common. The 2018 Military Appreciation Days Parade Grand Marshal is US Army Reserve Captain and 2016 Miss USA Deshauna Barber. Following the parade, attendees can join the Family Picnic at Grand Park at The Market Common. The picnic is free for all. Lunch is prepared by the Omar Shriners Chefs, and live music will feature the Andrew Thielen Big Band with a live show. These activities are all sponsored by the City of Myrtle Beach, PGBA, LLC, and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce as a "thank you" to our dedicated service men and women and their families. Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest

The Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest will take place over the weekend, affecting traffic in some locations. A 23-mile traffic loop will begin at 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday and will last until 2 a.m. The loop travels from 29th Avenue North and Ocean Boulevard, moves south to Kings Highway, then heads up Harrelson Boulevard to U.S. Hwy 501, onto S.C. 31 heading north, before heading south down George Bishop Parkway, onto 29th Avenue North and back to Ocean Boulevard.

Veterans March

The Veterans March on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach begins at 9 a.m. This special Memorial Day event isn't a parade, so it won't feature floats or vehicles, unless a vehicle is required for veterans who are not able to walk.  This march is organized by the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter.
