One of the newest events we’ve heard about over the past couple months is the upcoming Myrtle Beach 1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival. While we’ve never attended a water lantern festival, we make it a point to go to Brookgreen Gardens Night of a Thousand Candles every year and know how magical thousands of lights are at night.

This unique event will begin at 5:30 p.m. on April 13 at 1011 Crabtree Lane in The Market Common. The event is ticketed and each ticket holder will be given one lantern to release into the pond next to Grand Park. The main event (the release of the lanterns) won’t happen until 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. but there will be plenty of food trucks, kids activities, live entertainment and bingo leading up to the lantern release.

Those who attend are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and their own food and drinks as well though it should be noted that alcohol is not welcome at the event. On April 7, early bird pricing on ticket purchases expires and prices increase from $24.99 (plus taxes and fees) to $29.99 (plus taxes and fees). Children ages 9 and under get in for free and youth tickets (ages 10 to 13) are $12.99 (plus taxes and fees). Additional lanterns cost $10. Tickets include a kit for decorating your lantern.

The photos we’ve seen from other water lantern festivals are extraordinary, so be sure to bring along your phone or camera so you can capture plenty of special moments. Another plus to this event is its close proximity to the shopping and dining options at The Market Common, making it a great stop either before or after the 1000 Lights Water Lantern Festival.
