While it may sound best to say that it’s always sunny in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the truth is that it does rain from time to time. While the sunny days far outweigh rainy ones (Myrtle Beach is blessed with 215 sunny days a year), it can be frustrating to see clouds begin to form over what was planned as a perfect beach day. But a day or two of rain shouldn’t deter you from having a good time and making the most of your time away on vacation… especially when you take a look at the many activities perfectly suited for an overcast day.…

You have been joining us as we travel to the 14 communities of the Grand Strand each Friday, and today, we are headed up the road only 10 miles from the fun-filled Myrtle Beach area to Carolina Forest. Technically still a part of Myrtle Beach, Carolina Forest is a pre-planned community consisting of several neighborhoods, shopping, and attractions on the inland side of the Intracoastal Waterway. There really is so much to do, so let’s get started! If you are looking to shop ‘til you drop, the Tanger Outlets, located on highway 501, is the place…

Cherished and transformational are two words that describe what the Gay Dolphin means to the Myrtle Beach community of visitors and locals. While Myrtle Beach has changed over the years, the one place that has remained a constant staple of the Boardwalk is the Gay Dolphin. Starting out as a small gift shop back in 1946, the owner, Justin Plyer, had a vision for what Myrtle Beach could be – an affordable beach town where families can gather, and traditions can take shape. His entrepreneurship set the tone for Myrtle Beach as he owned and…

Myrtle Beach and Canada have a long-standing partnership, beginning back in spring 1960 with the first Canadian-American Days. The Canadian-American Days were introduced by the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce to attract Canadian families to the beach during their spring school break with exciting events, deals and concerts. Over the years, the name of the week has changed to just “Can-Am” Days. The Can-Am week was canceled last year due to Covid restrictions, but we are more excited than ever to welcome our Canadian friends back to The Beach…

A seasonal souvenir to remind you of Christmas at the beach should be on everyone’s wish list! We locals love the holiday season in the Myrtle Beach area… so much so that visitors will find several stores dedicated to Christmas shopping and decorating year-round. From the north end of the Grand Strand inland to further south in Pawleys Island, here are a few of our favorite spots to pick up a Christmas ornament to remind you of your vacation: Christmas Mouse This year-round Christmas store has eight locations total and three of them are in the…

This year has been hard on so many people, and local shops, artisans, farmers, and craftsmen are no exception. As the holidays approach, one of the things we try to do is buy some of our gifts locally. The Waccamaw Market Cooperative has made that easy for us by hosting a series of ‘Holiday Markets’ at three different locations along the Grand Strand this Christmas season. The Holiday Markets are similar in nature to the Waccamaw Market Cooperative’s regular farmers market (one of my all-time favorite things about summer in the south), but…

The gift of travel is a hot item this holiday season Most Americans had to cancel their 2020 travel plans due to Covid-19, and no one is very happy about that. Beside the fact that the pandemic has crushed the hospitality industry, there’s a human aspect to this crisis that isn’t being addressed. People need people, and they need to unwind and escape the rigors of everyday life—especially life in 2020. According to the US Travel Association, taking time off greatly benefits Americans: it is essential to a person’s overall wellbeing, and it…

The Myrtle Beach area is home to fantastic shopping opportunities year-round with our blend of outlet malls, specialty boutiques, national retail stores and more. But Black Friday and Thanksgiving weekend shoppers will delight in the steep discounts and early shopping hours offered to holiday customers. Just remember to pack your mask and patience! Retail stores still have mask ordinances in effect, increased sanitation practices and limited capacities. While I don’t head out shopping on Black Friday every year, I always love the energy and…
