The popular Diva Half Marathon and 5k event are set to take place this weekend in North Myrtle Beach. Last year’s event drew nearly 4,500 runners from across the United States. While I can’t imagine many people would register for a half marathon last minute, I know several people who decide do a 5k just days before the event. That said, registration is still available online here ( www.runlikeadiva.com ) until midnight on Thursday, May 3. I’ve never actually run in this event, but I have attended a few years… which should say something about just…

We take Cinco de Mayo seriously in Myrtle Beach. Partly because margaritas and coronas taste better in the South Carolina sunshine and partly because we just love a good fiesta. While one of the more popular annual events, “Burro Fest,” won’t take place this year (the Mexican restaurant that hosts the event is closed for renovations), Broadway at the Beach has announced they’ll be having a party big enough for everyone. The day’s festivities are set to begin with a 5k race at 8:30 a.m. at Senor Frog’s at Broadway at the Beach. Race packet pick…

Regardless of the success of the Myrtle Beach Pelicans ball players on the field, 2018 already looks like a win for anyone looking to entertain their family this baseball season. The Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Chicago Cubs released their promotional schedule for the year recently, and I really like what I’m seeing. Themes including Myrtle Beach Mermen Night, NASA Night, Women in Sports Night, Christmas Vacation Night, Old School Hip Hop Night, Cubs-A-Palooza, Star Wars Night and (what is sure to be our family’s favorite) Touch-A-Truck…

The Myrtle Beach area is home to two outstanding South Carolina State Parks: Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park . As an outdoor enthusiast, I enjoy spending time in both of these parks throughout the year. In fact, we’re annual pass holders--something I definitely recommend investing in if you are a South Carolina resident. When we’re on the southern end of the Grand Strand towards Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island, I always like to stop at Huntington Beach State Park. The park is home to a wide, pristine beach, over 300…

It’s no surprise that a few years ago, Trip Advisor rated Alligator Adventure as the number one attraction in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina . It’s as unique an attraction as it is memorable, and a place I’ve enjoyed every time I’ve visited. Anything that involves learning about animals is fascinating to me, but even if I wasn’t so interested in wildlife I think I would still find Alligator Adventure to be a worthy stop. The 15-acre park features over 200 species of animals on display at any given time, from reptiles to other exotic animals,…

As a lifelong Myrtle Beach area resident, I’m not sure why it took me 29 years to make it onto one of our area’s dolphin watching cruises. I was missing out... Because now having done it, I can say It was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had while out on the water along the Grand Strand. While there are multiple operators that offer great dolphin watching experiences-both out of Murrells Inlet and Little River-I hopped aboard Captain Mark Collins’ vessel with Blue Wave Adventures Dolphin Watch Cruise . Their dolphin watch cruise runs…

There is so much to love about The Market Common area of Myrtle Beach. It’s been a great spot to grab lunch or dinner, do a little shopping, see a movie or even go for a run since it opened in 2008. But in 2016, the area made headlines when it became home to the Southeast’s first enabling playground, Savannah’s Playground . This playground is one-of-a-kind and beloved by visitors and locals alike. The $3 million, multi-acre park features all ADA-approved playground equipment designed so that children of all abilities have the opportunity to play…

As a year round resident of the Grand Strand, I like to keep a running list of all the fun, free things to do throughout the busy summer season. While we love to take advantage of the many wonderful family-friendly attractions the Myrtle Beach area has to offer, it would get pricey if we were doing something with an admission fee every single day. One of my favorite free places to visit any time of year is Vereen Historical Memorial Gardens . Beyond being absolutely free to enter and explore, Vereen Historical Memorial Gardens is a must do for…

Beat the heat this summer at the new Aqua Park at Shark Wake Park. It’s the largest inflatable, floating obstacle course on the East Coast. Covering an acre of water, the aqua park can hold up to 120 people per hour. It’s the place to be to jump, play and climb this summer. The Aqua Park is the newest addition to Shark Wake Park and marks the completion of the park since it opened one year ago. Shark Wake Park will celebrate with a “ Welcome Back Summer Party ” on Saturday, June 3rd from Noon to Dusk. Festivities will include music, cornhole…
