Saturday night we crashed the VIP party of the Illusions of Magic show at the Palace Theatre in Myrtle Beach. We invited some friends and made it a double date after hearing others rave about the special effects and scenery. The show was a blast. Part magic, part illusion, part comedy and all fun. From what we had read, the show (direct from Las Vegas) is consistently rated a top touring illusion production that combines its special effects and elaborate scenery to create a modern spectacle. The children around us in the crowd were…

Last week brought some good news to the Myrtle Beach area as Brookgreen Gardens was voted one of the ‘Top 10 Best Public Gardens in the U.S.' by popular traveler review website TripAdvisor. The list-based on user reviews and opinions posted to the site-lists Brookgreen Gardens as sixth on the list, noting that the gardens feature "four seasons' worth of horticultural surprises, including perennials, roses, and a stunning array of shrubs and trees." A well-deserved award, especially considering Brookgreen Gardens boasts the largest and…

Editor's Note: This entry is submitted by guest blogger Mary McPherson, who visited the Myrtle Beach area with her husband, son and daughter in March 2013. She is from Ontario, Canada. We knew the beach here would be gorgeous and we knew the sunshine would help clear the winter cobwebs from our heads but we did not expect the incredible warmth and generosity of spirit from everyone we met. Southern hospitality is alive and well in Myrtle Beach. From the minute we checked into our hotel for our March break vacation, to the minute we left,…

Editor's Note: This entry is submitted by guest blogger Mary McPherson, who visited the Myrtle Beach area with her husband, son and daughter in March 2013. She is from Ontario, Canada. The view this morning was considerably better than the gray skies and snow-covered roofs that we usually see from our bedroom window in Ontario, Canada. Today is our first full day in Myrtle Beach . Listening to the surf and watching the waves is a great way to start the day. My seven-year-old daughter said it is as if the ocean waves are trying to make…

Zip and Away!

Editor's Note: This entry is submitted by guest blogger Mary McPherson, who visited the Myrtle Beach area with her husband, son and daughter in March 2013. She is from Ontario, Canada. Unlike my husband and son, I am not usually a risk-taker. Zip lining was not on my list of things to do down here. Maybe it was fresh ocean air that inspired us, or maybe it was the lights and laughter from the other patrons that compelled us. But after driving by the booth on our first night in Myrtle Beach, we decided to stop and give it a try. After a few…

As lunch nears and stomachs rumble, our minds are inevitably drawn to food. And if you live in South Carolina and blessed with a proximity to Coastal Carolina Cuisine , sometimes that food is pimento cheese. Whether spread on a sandwich or dipped on a chip, pimento cheese is a Southern favorite that never disappoints. We personally like ours with a little jalapeño pepper and from the locally-owned company Palmetto Cheese . Palmetto Cheese is based in Pawleys Island, South Carolina , about twenty miles south of central Myrtle Beach , and…

Each year, local artists and musicians gather to celebrate creativity at the Conway Farmer's Market (near the historic Horry County…

The 52nd Annual Canadian American Days Celebration (or Can-Am Days) is well under way here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The nine-day celebration kicked off March 9 and will continue through March 17, welcoming Canadian and American visitors with a lineup of fun events, giveaways and concerts taking place along the Grand Strand. One of the best things about this celebration every year is that most of the events are free and open to the public, including the popular concerts by Canadian performers Searson. Be sure to check out a full…

We were excited to learn about a halftime promotion you don't see all the time when VisitMyrtleBeach.com sent out a press release earlier this week. The promotion? Baby racing. The track? 15 yards in length near center court at the HTC Student Recreation and Convocation Center on campus at Coastal Carolina University. The prize? Diapers for all those who participate, and a $500 college savings bond and Myrtle Beach prize package valued at $500 for the winner. The cost to enter? Free. Why is this a good thing? Because babies are cute, it's…
