When traveling with children, parents quickly learn the value of a good playground. And thankfully we have tons to choose from in the Myrtle Beach area. From oceanfront playgrounds to shaded hidden gems to multi-acre park experiences, here is a list of some of our favorite area playgrounds: Savannah’s Playground 3600-3640 Emmens Ave, Myrtle Beach, SC This multi-acre playground is an enabling playground featuring all ADA-approved playground equipment and structures designed to provide children of all abilities the opportunity for social…

Earlier this week, we had the chance to check out the new location of Edventure Myrtle Beach, previously known as The South Carolina Children’s Museum, at The Market Common. It was awesome! The new space is 3,500 square feet of space and flight themed exhibits, and offers educational programming, field trips, birthday parties and more. Children learn through hands-on exhibits incorporating science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) concepts with a definite focus on aviation. There is an interactive spaceship exhibit children can climb…

Summer Fun at The Market Common

Last week, I took my eldest son (age 4) on a ‘date night’ for a special treat from one of his favorite spots, Peace Love and Little Donuts, located at The Market Common. After we enjoyed our donuts, we took a complimentary carriage ride around the tree-lined streets of The Market Common. He had a blast! Throughout the summer months, The Market Common provides these complimentary carriage rides on Tuesday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. Pick-up and drop-off is in front of Dolce Lusso Salon and Spa (3050 Howard Avenue) and rides last around six to seven…

I recently had a bad accident that left me handicapped for a few months. While it’s not the best time of year to be in a boot in sunny South Carolina, I’ve made the best of it in a lot of ways. For starters, it has given me the opportunity to get reacquainted with the handicapped-friendliness of our beach destination! For example, I had no idea that with a handicapped license tag, you may park for free in any public-operated parking meter. This includes much of the beach access parking you’ll find along the Grand Strand. For those of you who…

News Flash: Sharks Live in the Ocean. And They’re Really Cool! Sharks are a source of both fascination and fear. They are an ancient species that has adapted and survived in our oceans for more than 450 million years, and although some species were once hunted to near extinction, many have made a comeback in recent decades. Worldwide, there are said to be more than 400 species of shark that range in size from a few inches to forty feet long. Off the coast of the Carolinas, there are usually 25 - 50 different species of sharks, depending upon…

The first time I went parasailing, I didn’t quite know what to expect. Nervous and excited, I got strapped into a harness while the small boat cruised out to open waters. After a safety check, I was told to hang on, and off I went! The cable slowly rolled out and up, up, up I sailed! Parasailing is thrilling and exhilarating, and it’s a great opportunity to see the destination from a very different perspective. I’m glad to live in a region that has several parasailing options because this activity is also a bit addictive! Here are some of my…

There’s nothing like speeding across the waves, feeling the wind on your face, and the splash of the water as your jet ski powers through the surf. A jet ski is a wonderful way to get out in the water and enjoy sun and speed. If you’d rather cruise slowly and look for wildlife, you can do that, too. Between the Atlantic Ocean, the Intracoastal Waterway, and our inland rivers, the Myrtle Beach area offers a variety of great experiences with a variety of great water sports companies. For an amazing jet ski experience, check out these Grand Strand…
