If you’re lucky enough to be celebrating Mother’s Day week or weekend in the Myrtle Beach area, you’ve probably already given your mom a pretty good gift. Even if we weren’t there at the time, many longtime visitors are likely familiar with images of the small beach town Myrtle Beach once was. It’s amazing how much has changed over the years. In 2016, Myrtle Beach hosted a record 18.6 million visitors. The popular Diva Half Marathon and 5k event are set to take place this weekend in North Myrtle Beach. Last year’s event drew nearly 4,500 runners from across the United States. While I can’t imagine many people would register for a half marathon last minute, I know several people who decide do a 5k just days before the event. We take Cinco de Mayo seriously in Myrtle Beach. Partly because margaritas and coronas taste better in the South Carolina sunshine and partly because we just love a good fiesta. While one of the more popular annual events, “Burro Fest,” won’t take place this year (the Mexican restaurant that hosts the event is closed for renovations), Broadway at the Beach has announced they’ll be having a party big enough for everyone.
