MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Three Myrtle Beach area high school senior scholar athletes were awarded with the 2014 Myrtle Beach Marathon scholarship.

The recipients were:
• Gabrielle Brown, a graduate of Socastee High School
• Zachary Ohanesian, a graduate of Socastee High School
• Jerry Schexnayder, a graduate of Myrtle Beach High School

Each received a one-time $1,000 scholarship.

“We congratulate these fine students on all their accomplishments during their high school careers, and wish them continued success in the future,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “The Myrtle Beach area is not only a great vacation destination, but also a premier running destination because of events such as the Myrtle Beach Marathon. Tourism dollars generated because of running events help provide additional funding for furthering the education of our local students. That is something for which we can all be proud.”

The Myrtle Beach Marathon Scholarship was founded in 2005 and goes to an outstanding scholar athlete who has participated in any Myrtle Beach Marathon event as either a participant or a volunteer.

The 18th Annual Myrtle Beach Marathon is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2015.
