MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce recognizes U.S. Rep. Tom Rice as one of its 2014 Spirit of Enterprise Award winners.

An award ceremony was held on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at the Blue Cross Blue Shield facility, located at 8733 U.S. 17 Bypass South in Surfside Beach.

Rice, who represents South Carolina's 7th Congressional District, is one of 206 members of the House of Representatives and 32 members of the Senate who the U.S. Chamber honored with its annual Spirit of Enterprise Award in recognition of their support of pro-growth, pro-jobs policies during the first session of the 113th Congress.

"Since his time serving as chairman of the Horry County Council, one of Tom Rice's primary objectives has been job creation," said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. "Tom's work with Myrtle Beach area economic development officials and local businesses has been instrumental in helping the Grand Strand secure hundreds of new jobs over the past few years. He's been supportive of job growth in not only the Myrtle Beach area and the 7th District as a whole, but across the entire nation."

The U.S. Chamber's prestigious Spirit of Enterprise Award is given annually to members of Congress based on their votes on critical business legislation outlined in the chamber publication, "How They Voted." Members who supported the chamber's position on at least 70 percent of those votes qualify to receive the award. According to this year's scorecard, Rice received an 85 percent rating with the chamber in 2013.

"My No. 1 priority in Congress is, and always will be, jobs," said Rice. "I am honored to receive the Chamber of Commerce's Spirit of Enterprise Award, and look forward to advancing policies that grow our economy and create economic opportunities for South Carolinians and families nationwide."
