MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach International Airport had the lowest average domestic airfare pricing in the state of South Carolina during the third quarter of 2014, according to a report from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The Myrtle Beach average airfare was $228, placing it first in the state ahead of Charleston International Airport ($400) and Florence Regional Airport ($411).

According to the U.S Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the national average domestic airfare for the third quarter of 2014 was $396.

"Ensuring affordable transportation and providing quick and easy access is paramount to attracting new visitors to the Myrtle Beach area," said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. "We're pleased that our airline partners continue to provide our visitors and residents with non-stop flights and low-fare options."

The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics calculates the fares based on total ticket value and includes only the paid price at the time of the ticket purchase.

Below is the average domestic airfare during the third quarter for 2014 for airports in South Carolina, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation:

• Myrtle Beach - $228
• Charleston - $400
• Florence - $411
• Greenville-Spartanburg - $424
• Hilton Head - $480
