MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Officials with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and Coastal Carolina University, as well as private organizations, are exploring the idea of installing sand volleyball courts in the Myrtle Beach area.
Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, addressed the Myrtle Beach City Council on March 11, 2014 about the concept, which would call for multiple volleyball courts.
"Our destination is comprised of 60 miles of beautiful sandy beaches, so sand volleyball courts are a natural fit for the Myrtle Beach area," Dean said. "We continue to work to make the Grand Strand a fantastic sports tourism destination, and the popular sport of beach volleyball would help to differentiate our destination from others, and open it up to a more diverse group of athletes from across the country. We look forward to exploring this option with the City of Myrtle Beach and CCU officials."
Discussions about the sand volleyball court concept will continue.
