Visit Myrtle Beach Celebrates National Travel and Tourism Week

Visit Myrtle Beach is the Future of Travel!

Locals pass our many attractions and beaches every day, but many don’t even think of how they support our community and our state. Our 60-mile long coastline and the many attractions that have been developed to provide more entertainment options for our tourists define our community, provide our families with jobs, and have given more than nineteen million annual guests a lifetime of memories.

Travel matters, and it improves Myrtle Beach in ways that have a wide-reaching impact on our local residents. Travel supports over 83,000 Grand Strand jobs, and it also has an impact that we do not always see: travel can strengthen families, foster hometown pride, and build bridges that connect us with one another. Those who travel report that they are happier with their jobs, personal relationships and overall well-being compared to non-travelers.

Prior to the pandemic, in 2019, the travel industry was a powerful economic engine, supporting jobs and driving local economies in every pocket of America. Travel generated $2.6 trillion in economic output, supported 17 million American jobs and delivered a $51 billion trade surplus to the U.S. While the industry was hit hard by the challenges of the past two years, we are recovering and positioning our industry for a return to growth.

And while those are important numbers, it is not all just about the big, bottom line. Travel professionals are also laser-focused on the local businesses run by their friends, family, and neighbors who provide goods and services for visiting tourists. Here, in such a big tourist destination, we all know hundreds of folks who work day in and day out in the hospitality industry. The income they earn is invested in their homes and families and in our community.

Travel is powerful for cities and states, and Myrtle Beach is no exception. The Myrtle Beach area is accessible by car to 50% of the U.S. and the Myrtle Beach International Airport offers nine airlines with over 40 direct flights - making it ever easier to get to The Beach. We are ready for anyone seeking a new adventure and those who will be looking for opportunities to relax and find new places to strengthen connections with family and friends.

As we approach National Travel and Tourism Week, May 2-6, 2022, we honor the future of travel in recognition of the industry’s innovation, strength, competitiveness, and sustainability. This National Travel and Tourism Week, let's celebrate the #FutureOfTravel and how the industry will adapt and elevate over the years to come. Together we are providing jobs, recovering the economy, and reconnecting the U.S. and the world - the future of travel is bright! When times are uncertain, the Myrtle Beach area emerged stronger than ever before with record-setting visitation numbers for 2021. Visit Myrtle Beach is the future of travel and will help pave the way for generations of happy beach vacationers to come.
