Big Chill Island House: A Slice of Paradise at Barefoot Landing - Cloned

One of the latest additions to Barefoot Landing, Big Chill Island House is a new restaurant in North Myrtle Beach that provides waterfront views and vibrant flavors designed to accompany its unique decor. 

This island-inspired spot is breezy and spacious, with a laid-back vibe and a tasty menu that fuses elements of Hawaiian, Latin and Lowcountry cuisine.

It is the sister restaurant of Crooked Hammock Brewery, a bright, friendly and fun craft brew spot which has become a popular stop for Barefoot Landing visitors since opening in 2021. 

Similar to Crooked Hammock, Big Chill is bright and airy, but with an added touch of class, feeling more like a serene island retreat or a sunny veranda in Key West. 

A uniquely coastal atmosphere

Big Chill Island House features 3 bars, a spacious dining room, back patio and rooftop bar. Set along the Intracoastal Waterway, the rooftop bar and outdoor patio will be the spot this summer to watch boats cruise by and the sun set.

As you step inside the restaurant, the decor will make you feel as though you were whisked away to a tropical island. You can also hear the faint sounds of island music playing among the palm trees and ferns throughout the restaurant.

The rooftop bar is perfect for a swanky date night or a night out with friends. The drink menu offers a variety of delicious tropical cocktails that really screams “relaxation.”

The featured brews from their sister restaurant in Barefoot Landing, Crooked Hammock Brewery, offer a “hoppy” option for everyone. The main dining room is spacious and offers larger tables for families or groups to all sit back and enjoy a stress-free meal together. 

Explore a Island-inspired Menu

The menu is a mixture of cultures, ranging from Caribbean cuisine to Polynesian-inspired options.

A must-try appetizer on the menu is the Aloha Fries, with a spicy and tangy sauce drizzled over the top. For more island flavors, try the Kalua Pork Sliders, which are salty and sweet, or the fresh Short Rib Bao Buns.

Then from the main course, dig into the Island Bowl with perfectly cooked shrimp, which is a favorite dish on the menu. The fish sandwich should not be overlooked with house-made blackening seasoning and the fresh catch of the day.

You can also choose from a variety of familiar dishes like a burger, shrimp and grits, or crab cakes, all with a Big Island spin. From Hawaii to the Florida Keys, the flavors of each island town are represented in a delicious, tropical fusion with both vegetarian and gluten free options.

Be sure to save room for dessert, which are all made in house from scratch. The Key Lime Pie is a twist on the traditional style, with an ice cream consistency center — you have to try it! And if key lime isn’t for you, the coconut cake is a crowd-pleaser.

Our take

There are tons of waterfront restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area, but none quite like Big Chill Island House. This place definitely has a vibe all its own, with a combination of great decor, island-inspired cuisine and an accompaniment of drinks designed to please. 

The staff is full of Southern Charm, there's lot of unique views and places to sit, and the attention to detail throughout this multi-level restaurant is notable. If you're looking for something beyond the same ol' beach spot, you'll likely find it here — it's a little elevated and a lot of fun.
