56th Annual Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo" Competition

Enter your catch in the 2009 Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo... caught from pier, surf, inlet or deep sea... for monthly decals, shoulder patches, and prizes totaling over $7,000 in cash and merchandise. A grand prize of $2,000 is awarded at the end of the rodeo. The weigh master whose name is on the grand prize winner's entry card receives $200.

The 2009 Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo Awards Ceremony will culminate with the drawing of one name from the "Grand Prize Winners Box." Anglers must be present to win the Grand Prize. Chamber staff and members of the Fishing Rodeo Committee are ineligible to compete for the Grand Prize.

Spring King Mackerel Tournament Winners

One hundred forty-nine anglers competed for cash prizes in the 29th annual Spring Pier King Mackerel Tournament, which took place June 12-14 on local fishing piers: Apache Pier, Cherry Grove Pier, Myrtle Beach State Park Pier, Second Avenue Pier, Springmaid Pier, Surfside Pier and The Pier at Garden City.

First Place: Steve Taylor of Easley, S.C.
Second Place: Stephen Chanilo of Greensboro, N.C.
Third Place: David Cox of Lancaster, S.C.
Fourth Place: Tab Jacobs of Loris, S.C.
Fifth Place: Eddie Hembree of Conway, S.C.

(Because only three king mackerels were caught, the names of the fourth- and fifth-place winners were drawn in accordance with tournament rules and regulations.)

Fall King Mackerel Tournament

One hundred forty-six anglers competed for cash prizes in the 29th annual Fall King Mackerel Tournament, which took place Setember 18-20 on local fishing piers: Apache Pier, Cherry Grove Pier, Myrtle Beach State Park Pier, Second Avenue Pier, Springmaid Pier, Surfside Pier and The Pier at Garden City.

Notable information:

1. 157 teams (total 314 participants)
2. Notable ages of participants: 1 years old to 87 years young
3. SPOT RUN at Pier at Garden City, the children were so excited
4. Rain threatened, but it stayed away well after the awards were done..hooray
5. Again this year all piers participated in this event from Cherry Grove Pier to Surfside Beach Pier. Big thanks to Myrtle Beach State Park, we could not have this wonderful event "close" with a
meal and awards without Shelter 1..the park rangers are AWESOME!! Special thanks to George Gibble of Springmaid Pier (for food) and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce (for sponsorship).
