The 2017 Horry County Museum Documentary Film Series continues with the film Echoes of the Blue and Gray: Veterans of the Civil War. The survivors of the American Civil War wished that their sacrifices be remembered. And, as they marched with thinning ranks into a new century, the invention of the motion-picture camera enabled technology to record their moving image, their faces and voices, allowing us to remember them as something more than a stilted pose, a bronze statue, or a name on a marble headstone. This collection of newsreels allows one for the first time to actually see and hear the gallant heroes of the American Civil War. This film features the 1913 and 1938 Gettysburg Reunion, 1917 Vicksburg Reunion; Famous Generals: Dan Sickles, Joe Wheeler, Nelson Miles; Famous Units: Irish Brigade, Forrest's Cavalry, New York Zouaves; and the final reunions of the G.A.R. & U.C.V.
