With more than 100 courses, the Myrtle Beach area has earned its distinction as the top golf destination in the U.S. Don't believe us? Check out USA Today's most recent ranking of the top places to golf.

And for all you sports enthusiasts, did you know that one of our courses played a big part in the history of the definitive sports magazine?

In 1954, Pine Lakes Country Club, the area's first golf course, hosted the first sales conference for Sport's Illustrated just a few weeks before the debut issue was released. This course, also known as the "Granddaddy", was originally built upon natural dunes less than a half mile from the ocean. Now, it is a picturesque course for golfers of all skill levels.

Before hitting the green, stop inside and check out the small museum that is dedicated to the sales conference that kicked off the success of Sport's Illustrated Magazine.
