Golf is a multi-generational sport, passed down from fathers to sons and mothers to daughters. Those of us who come from a long line of golf enthusiasts remember taking to the links with our parents or grandparents when we were children, concentrating so hard to keep our eye squarely on the ball, just as mom and dad taught us.
And our smiles widened when we'd solidly connect our club with the ball, sending it soaring over the fairway. We were proud of that accomplishment, and the look of pride in our parents' and grandparents' faces only made the small victory that much sweeter.
We're celebrating these generations of golf enthusiasts in Myrtle Beach with the 16th Annual Golf Dimensions Superstore National Father and Son Team Classic, held July 18-20.
The tournament is open to not only fathers and sons, but also grandfathers and grandsons, uncles and nephews and any other father/son type of relationship.
Host sites for the 2013 tournament include: Sea Trail Golf Resort; Long Bay Club; Wild Wing Plantation; Crow Creek; Moorland at Legends Resort; Fazio at Barefoot Resort; Kings North at Myrtle Beach National; Rivers Edge; and Burning Ridge.
The 2012 54-hole competition drew players from 42 states and five foreign countries.
We can't wait to see this year's tournament do even better. Click here to register your team online.
And here's to all those supportive parents and other loved ones who passed on their knowledge of the game to us. Our chip shot wouldn't have been the same without you!
