We live in the south, which means we’re fans of, among other things, sweet tea, four-wheelers and barbecue.

And since we live here in the Myrtle Beach area, we’re taking one of those southern staples as using it as the springboard, once again, for an end-of-summer blowout.

The Ninth Annual Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival returns to the Grand Strand over Labor Day Weekend on Aug. 29 and Aug. 30, 2014 at the Horry Georgetown Technical College Conference Center on the Grand Strand campus near Grand Park at The Market Common. Admission is free to this Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned event, with proceeds benefiting the Shriner’s Hospital of Greenville, S.C.

It runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, and 12 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 30.

Adding even more excitement to this annual celebration is the $13,000 in cash prizes that will be awarded to the winners of the official barbecue championship of South Carolina. The deadline for team registration is Aug. 22, 2014.

Mouth-watering barbecue samples and festival food will be available for purchase during the entire festival. Barbecue sandwiches, combos and by-the-pound are also there to buy from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday.

We can already smell the brisket!
