South Carolina's official state dance hit the big 3-0 in 2014.

That's right, we're talking about the Carolina Shag. This two-person tango calls to mind the dance steps of the jitterbug and has been a favorite of Myrtle Beach area residents and visitors for generations.

In fact, in April 1984, our state lawmakers passed a bill designating the shag as the Palmetto State's official dance.

Nowhere is the shag more celebrated along the Grand Strand than in North Myrtle Beach, its birthplace. And if you're looking for that perfect spot to dance the night away, you're going to love Fat Harold's Beach Club. This popular local club is full of events throughout the year, including free shag lessons on Tuesday nights with local expert, Jeppy McDowell.
