Springmaid Pier Hurricane Simulator

Springmaid Pier is the longest and most accommodating pier in Myrtle Beach. At 1,060 feet long and 36 feet wide, many consider it a landmark. Once I set foot on its wooden planks, I couldn’t argue with the property’s claim that the pier offers one of the best views you’ll find anywhere in the Myrtle Beach area. But I wasn’t there to take in the breathtaking panoramic views; in fact, I didn’t need to walk more than 10 feet to reach my destination.

The Springmaid Pier Hurricane Simulator sits conspicuously at the entrance of the pier; but, it’s easy to miss. Being a native Midwesterner, I’ve never experienced a hurricane first-hand. I decided it was time to find out.

Two dollars and a tangled mess of hair later, I had my answer. Hurricanes are no joke. If you’ve never lived through one, it’s definitely worth the two minutes to see what it feels like to stand in 80 mile-per-hour winds. One piece of advice: dress appropriately.
