For those that have visited the Myrtle Beach area over Labor Day weekend in the past, the chance you attended the area's annual Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival is pretty high. Last year's festival drew around 40,000 with a fantastic lineup of free live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, kids activities and finger-lickin' good Southern barbeque.

At the end of July, festival organizer Palmetto Event Productions Inc. announced that for the first time in the event's history, they were offering $20,000 in cash prizes to contest winners at this year's festival: $10,000 for first place in Saturday's barbeque championship; $3,000 to the second place winner; $2,000 to the third place winner; $1,000 to the fourth place winner; and $500 to fifth through tenth place teams.

While the increased cash prize is expected to attract more barbeque teams, a new event layout is expected to attract even more attendees. Event organizers say around 50,000 people can be expected at this year's three-day event celebrating the ‘end of summer.'

Another bonus? This year's festival will provide a free fireworks extravaganza on Saturday night.
The Beach, Boogie & BBQ Festival is repeatedly one of our favorite area events largely do to the fact that the food is both delicious and affordable. Attendees can sample barbecue from competing teams on Saturday beginning at noon by purchasing a $10 wristband while supplies last. Children 6 and under can sample for free, and barbecue sandwiches and platters will also be available for purchase.

The family-friendly festival is a partnership with the OMAR Shriners, who will also offer free health screenings for children who may qualify for treatment at Shriners Hospitals for Children in
Greenville, S.C.,
regardless of any family's ability to pay.

The event will be open to the public Aug. 1 from Friday, Aug. 30, from noon to 9:30 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 31, from noon to 9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 1, from noon to 5 p.m. and will be held at Grand Park at The Market Common.
