MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Construction officially gets underway on the Myrtle Beach area's newest hotel with a groundbreaking ceremony scheduled for Nov. 6, 2014.

It is one of several new resorts moving through construction or planning phases in the Myrtle Beach area, a sign that tourism continues to grow.

The Homewood Suites Oceanfront Resort and Conference Center will be located at 1805 S. Ocean Blvd., the first and only Homewood Suites in the 399-property chain that is on the oceanfront. Plans are to open it in 2016.

This new resort will have 100 suites that include a mix of two-bedroom and one-bedroom accommodations, as well as studios. All will come with kitchens and private balconies.

As a benefit to groups looking to plan visits to the Myrtle Beach area, Homewood will also have a 300-seat conference center.

Guests can also enjoy the hotel's three pools, fire pit, fitness center and a bistro serving sandwiches and snacks.

"We are in the midst of a tourism and economic boom in the Myrtle Beach area with the construction of new resorts that will offer spacious accommodations and amenities to our guests," said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce." And with all this construction come plenty of new jobs to our area, from those laying the bricks of the resorts to the ones who will ultimately tend to the needs of our visitors year-round. It truly is an exciting time of growth for our community."

In addition to Homewood, work continues on the Hilton Grand Vacations Club tower near 22nd Avenue North. It is set to open in May 2015.

Plans also continue moving through the approval process for a hotel tower that will be located near 17th Avenue North.

The Myrtle Beach area has seen four straight years of tourism growth, culminating with 16.1 million visitors in 2013.
