MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Sixty-three children from the Loris community took part in the 8th Annual Substitutes for Santa event on Dec. 9, 2014.

Sponsored by the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce's gsSCENE for Young Professionals and SOS Healthcare, this event gave these underprivileged children a shopping experience to brighten their holidays.

The event began with dinner at Ultimate California Pizza Game Zone, where restaurant managers made a $4,500 contribution, which will go toward future Substitutes for Santa initiatives.

"We are so grateful to the managers and staff at Ultimate California Pizza Game Zone for both hosting our children and volunteers, and for their very generous holiday gift to Substitutes for Santa," said Kema Faulk, membership programs manager for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and gsSCENE liaison. "Seeing the smiles on these kids' faces makes all of the hard work our volunteers put into this event well worth it, and we are so fortunate to be able to continue this wonderful community initiative for the foreseeable future."

The event continued with a shopping spree at the nearby Walmart, where volunteers assisted the children in picking out toys and other items on their wish lists.

All expenses for Substitute for Santa have been paid for through proceeds raised by gsSCENE in 2014's Kickin' It For Charity Kickball Tournament. Donations currently provided by: Ultimate California Pizza, A& I Fire & Water Restoration, Sunway Charters, Liberty Tax Service, Studio 303 Inc., Springmaid Beach Resort, Miller Motte Technical College, V Photography, Four Star Plumbing, Ripley's Aquarium, BNC Bank, Express Management, NBSC, a division of Synovus Bank, Jackson Companies and Native Sons.
