MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will be switching their major league affiliation to the Chicago Cubs starting in the 2015 season, local team officials announced.

The Class A Advanced team is currently affiliated with the Texas Rangers. That affiliation was preceded by a lengthy one with the Atlanta Braves.

"Having our local baseball team linked with a truly national franchise that has as rich of a history as the Chicago Cubs is a great feat for the Myrtle Beach area," said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. "A growing number of our visitors are from the Chicago area, and this affiliation will link our community to the hopes of Cubs fans across the country. These fans have been waiting a long time for another world championship title, but they certainly don't have to wait to enjoy a wonderful vacation in the Myrtle Beach area in 2015."

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans ended their 2014 season with a trip to the Carolina League Championship Series.
