MYRTLE BEACH AREA WELCOMES SOUTH ATLANTIC SHRINE ASSOCIATION & 2012 FALL FESTIVAL
Free screenings and South Atlantic Shrine Association Parade part of 39th annual citywide festival

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce/CVB and the City of Myrtle Beach are excited to welcome the South Atlantic Shrine Association (SASA) 39th Annual Meeting to the area next week. Events for the SASA, including the 2012 Fall Festival, will be happening Sept. 19-22 and more information is listed below.

Officials say there are many benefits to the Shriners holding their annual meeting and fall festival in the area. The SASA annual meeting will bring approximately 20,000 Shriners and their families to the Myrtle Beach area. The association, representing seven states, plans to occupy 14 hotels along the Grand Strand and say they'll boost the local economy by an estimated $4.5 million. In addition to an economic boost, the Shriners Hospital for Children will screen children from birth to 18-years of age for orthopedic conditions requiring monitoring or treatment.

Recently, the Omar Shrine Temple-one of the 18 Shrine Centers in SASA-held a screening operation during the Beach, Boogie and BBQ Festival at Market Common where they screened 18 children. Eight children were accepted for treatment free of charge at the Shiners' Hospital in Greenville following the free screenings. Another screening will be held during the SASA Annual Meeting in the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce parking lot at 1200 Oak Street in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
