Hosted by Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo Committee Purpose:To promote and introduce young anglers to the sport of fishing and create an opportunity for parent, relative or volunteer to spend the day with a child. The event is a promotional program under the auspices of the Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo with some of those rules applying. The event will be limited to the Grand Strand piers that are official weigh stations for the Grand Strand Fishing Rodeo. Preregister:Adults need to contact one of the piers of their choice to pre-register their young angler. There is no entry fee. They must fill out a registration form to reserve space. Drop off application at or mail to Pier of your choice, deadline October 12, 2009. For more information contact any of the piers listed above. Date & Time:Saturday, October 24, 2009 – fish from 8 a.m. until noon. Rules:One adult/child team — anyone 18 yrs. and older may accompany a child. (No jigging, plugging or floating.) Adult must stay with child throughout the tournament. Divisions:Youth anglers 6 years and younger; 7-11; 12-18 years. State regulations apply. Bottom fishing only. Equipment:Adult/child team or anglers may bring their own fishing equipment or the team pier of choice will provide complimentary equipment. No gold hooks. Amenities:Complimentary food and drinks will be available for participants. Each young angler will receive a gift bag. Awards:Awards will be given to first, second and third place winners at each pier. Overall awards from all piers in each age category will be awarded for largest single catch (child) and the total number of fish caught and released in each of the 3 age groups. Awards Picnic:All first, second and third place teams (and immediate family of Picnic: the child) from each pier; the committee, sponsors and media will be invited to the "Take a Kid Fishing" awards picnic at 2 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach State Park, Shelter I. Overall awards for largest single catch and number of fish caught and released will be presented immediately after the picnic. Seminar:The Grand Strand Salt Water Anglers Association will host an hour seminar on the basic art of fishing for all interested teams on Friday, October 23, 2009 at 7 p.m. One seminar will be held at Springmaid Beach Conference Center and the other at the Apache Pier Activity Room.
